The Design of the Bedroom

It is amazing how little we consider the design of the bedroom, of the décor that we use in there. We are happy to carefully plan front rooms, kitchens, even conservatories. But few of us spend much time considering our bedroom.

But why is this? The bedroom is the room that we spend most of our lives in and as such it is a room deserving of our most careful considerations. A well designed bedroom that we enjoy the décor of can really help us enjoy a home more – or make a flat/house feel like home.

Remember the Details

Of course a number of people will give careful consideration to their bed, or at least how comfortable it is, and with good reason. But it not just the bed and large cupboards etc that need consideration, the details of the room also come into play.

Such factors need to be considered as do any dressing table stools match up with the rest of the set – does the wood from these dressing table stools also match, or at least compliment, other wood in the room such as skirting boards or curtain rods?

It is these little details that can bring together all the myriad of items together into one common whole, drawing together the details into a connection that builds a theme, an overall design.

Without these details we end up with a mishmash of thoughts, concepts and look. Rather than creating a striking whole these details compete and distract from each other, leaving us with an impression of mess and poor planning.

As such details like the dressing room stools matter because they are what builds a picture for us. The large furniture may create the framework but it is the details that paint the picture of a room.
